CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL AND INSTITUTE

A Festival needs searching and communicative artists to rise to these great works, and this season, in addition to the Manhattan String Quartet, our ensemble - in - residence, we are thrilled to present the brilliant British-Brazilian-American pianist Stephen Gosling who will give the first Bosnian performance of Charles Ives’ Concord Sonata. From the United States we welcome the exciting Piano Duo Stephanie and Saar, from whose eclectic repertoire we will be treated to Debussy, Messiaen and George Crumb. Bosnian soprano Adema Pljevljak-Krehic will join the Manhattan Quartet for a rare performance of Alban Berg’s Lyric Suite and members of the department of ethnomusicology from the Sarajevo Academy of Music will give examples of the Balkan folk singing ‘ganga’ used as inspiration in Craig Walsh’s Quartet. Still to announce is an ensemble coming from the ITU Music Conservatory of Istanbul and, of course, a concert by the eager young artists of our Chamber Music Institute.

for these evenings of creative bravery in the Dom Armije,

Sarajevo. Bosnia and Herzegovina.

For its fifth season SCMF celebrates those composers whose courage of creation produced the great works we treasure today. To Beethoven and Berg, to Ives and Messiaen and so many others, and to all those toiling away today we are so grateful. We salute these brave geniuses for their belief and determination in creating these masterpieces and whose vision contributed so much to the enlightenment of audiences and to the evolution of classical music.
